Now that Danielle Hunter has been extended with a one year deal, fans are looking to the Vikings front office to lock up Justin Jefferson and T.J. Hockenson for the long term. All Vikings fans are on the edge of their seats for these extensions to be done. It is absolutely imperative that Jefferson and Hockenson are Vikings for the rest of their careers.
Jefferson
This might be the biggest no-brainer in league history, but the Vikings absolutely must get Justin Jefferson inked on a huge, long contract. There is no good reason that he should play a down of football for any other team during his career. Jefferson’s upcoming deal will surely reset the wide receiver market. Vikings fans can only hope for a deal that includes at least four years, if not more. He is a once in a lifetime talent, and we’d prefer if that talent remained in the purple and gold.
Hockenson
Another obvious move, T.J. Hockenson needs to be a Viking for the foreseeable future. He has proven to be a top five tight end, and an extremely valuable piece to the Vikings offense. Most notably he provides another problem for defenses, and adds to the punishment that teams will receive for diverting too much attention to Justin Jefferson. If Minnesota can keep Jefferson and Hockenson, as well as this offensive core together, they will be dangerous for years to come.
The timetable for these extensions is currently unknown. Fans have been making their best guesses as to who will get a deal done first. Neither player seems to be in too big of a hurry to get something done. Although they are both likely anticipating getting paid, they’re going about their business in training camp and preparing for the upcoming season. When deals get done for Jefferson and Hockenson though, there will be lots of relief in the Vikings community. Hopefully sooner rather than later.
